Who
Welcome to PGY1 Studio. I started my pharmacy career as a pharmacy technician in 2013. The name of PGY1 Studio carries many memories from my milestone year as a resident pharmacist living in a studio in Philadelphia, PA. During that year, I learned and grew in ways I never expected. I have now been practicing as a pharmacist in the outpatient setting for more than 7 years. Till this date, I often think back to my residency and miss the learning opportunities and the drive to take on new challenges.
Why
There are many resources available for pharmacy residents, but they don’t always meet your needs or preferences. From my own experience having various resources provided by my program, there is always a gap in support and encouragement. Residency is often viewed as something that should be difficult and residents are expected to simply figure things out on their own. I kept asking myself: How can we better support residents and new practitioners? The idea of PGY1 Studio was created with that question in mind.
PGY1 Studio begins as a virtual space to promote the well-being of pharmacy residents and new practitioners, and the well-rounded growth to help with day-to-day professional responsibilities. We provide residency preparation services and other resources a pharmacist (or a pharmacist-to-be) may need.
We do not aim to replace or compete with existing resources, such as state organizations or academic programs. Instead, we hope to thoughtfully support residents and pharmacists by filling gaps where additional guidance may be helpful.
We hope to motivate student pharmacists, resident pharmacists, and practicing pharmacists, including myself, to thrive in their career, especially in challenging times or when work conditions are less than ideal. We have more ideas to expand PGY1 Studio and will continue to grow with your support
